Forty years after the huge Brent oil and gas field started operations, one family's story reflects its history…and the birth of a new industry. 13 Jan 2020 Benchmark Brent crude is trading around the $65 dollar mark while West gas plays in modern life … from a supply standpoint, this industry  Brent North Sea oil comes from Northwest Europe and is the benchmark for The U.S. oil industry increased supply slowly, supporting prices high enough for petroleum flattens out as utilities rely more on natural gas and renewable energy.

The Brent oil and gas field, lying north-east of the Shetland Islands, has been a cornerstone of the UK’s hugely successful oil and gas industry for 40 years. It has created and sustained thousands of jobs, contributed billions of pounds in tax revenues, and provided the UK with a substantial amount of its oil and gas. Brent B, the first Brent platform to be commissioned, was built in Stavanger, Norway and towed out to its location on the field in August 1975. (Source: Shell) This was a major engineering feat, since at the time Brent, in water depths up to 150m, was one of the deepest offshore oil fields in the world. The Brent oil and gas field was discovered in 1971. Brent was developed using one steel and three concrete platforms. Oil is exported by pipeline to Sullom Voe, while wet gas is exported to St Fergus. Dry gas is sold at St Fergus and NGLs are transported overland by pipeline to Mossmorran for fractionation and export.Brent has been onstream for over 40 years and has produced 3 bnboe. The next step in the life cycle is to decommission the Brent Field's four platforms and their related infrastructure.
